ORAL HYGIENE
ORAL AND PERIODONTAL HYGIENE
At Goldberg Dental Group we know that a beautiful and healthy smile begins with your personal oral hygiene routine. We work with you to establish the custom dental hygiene routine that best fits your mouth. We welcome any and all questions about caring for your teeth, bridges, crowns, implants or veneers.
Your gums are also extremely important to your overall oral health. We test your gum health during regular visits and take careful note of any abnormalities. We can provide periodontal cleanings and treatment and will refer you to our recommended specialists when needed.
Please call our office immediately if you ever experience pain or other difficulties with your gums!
ORAL CANCER SCREENINGS
Oral cancer screenings are a very important part of regular dental checkups. Using the most modern
screening system, Goldberg Dental Group is able to pinpoint potential problems early, oftentimes before they become irreversible or even life-threatening.
Oral cancer screenings are performed using an ultraviolet light or similar device that allows us to see issues undetectable by the human eye under normal conditions. We maintain photographic and x-ray records of your mouth that, over time, can provide key indications of abnormal changes that signal cancers or other oral diseases.
Certain lifestyle choices can have a great impact on the tissues in your mouth and your overall oral health. If you are a smoker or heavy drinker, make sure you get regular screenings when you visit the dentist.
SCALING/ROOT PLANING/DEEP CLEANING
Sometimes, plaque and calculus, also called “tartar,” accumulate below the gum line, which can lead to more serious periodontal issues if left untreated. If this area is not kept clean, the bacteria in the plaque and calculus can creep down the tooth surface to create tissue “pockets” that eventually degrade underlying bone.
During a visit to Goldberg Dental Group we routinely examine your gum tissue for evidence of periodontal disease. If we find areas of calculus below the gumline or bleeding and deep pocketing, we may suggest what’s known as a “deep cleaning,” also referred to as a periodontal scaling and root planing.
This minor non-surgical procedure involves using hand scalers and our state-of-the-art ultrasonic cleaner to debride these areas below the gumline. In order to make sure that our patients are completely comfortable, we administer local anesthesia to ensure that you don’t feel anything while we make these areas completely spotless.
An integral part of this process is oral hygiene instruction and home care compliance. We enjoy taking additional efforts to educate our patients about periodontal maintenance and home care to ensure that they keep up with their hygiene so that they can keep smiling for years to come!
We recommend regular dentist visits to maintain your healthiest smile for years to come. It’s never too late to prioritise yourself! Schedule an appointment with one of our dentists.
CROWNS & BRIDGES
BRIDGES & CROWNS
Whether you are missing one tooth or several teeth, we have a personalized dental solution for you. Beyond the cosmetic reasons, it is essential that missing teeth be replaced to prevent structural changes to your mouth and jaw from occurring, which can negatively impact speaking and chewing.
BRIDGES FOR MISSING TEETH
Dental bridges are a great way to replace missing teeth and are made from gold, metal, metal alloys, porcelain or composite to ensure that they are strong and durable.
BRIDGE MAKING PROCESS
- Abutments – The teeth that neighbor the area where a tooth or multiple teeth are missing are recontoured to create what is called an abutment, or an “anchor tooth”. The bridge is attached to the abutment.
- Mold preparation – After the abutments have been prepared, a digital scan mold is taken of the area and sent to an artisan dental lab where a permanent bridge will be skillfully crafted.
- Temporary bridge – A temporary bridge is used to protect the abutments and the exposed gum areas and to fill the space where a tooth or teeth are missing.
- Bridge fitting – A permanent bridge that looks exceptional, fits to perfection and and feels as close to natural teeth as possible is attached to the abutments, creating a smile that is both beautiful and functional!
CROWN LENGTHENING & GINGIVOPLASTY
Crown lengthening is a procedure that is done to treat tooth decay and involves surgically removing a small amount of bone around a tooth to create enough room for a new crown.
Crown lengthening, along with gingivoplasty, the removal of excess gum tissue, can also be performed for aesthetic purposes, to improve the appearance of an overly gummy smile. These two procedures are done together in instances where the teeth might actually be the proper length but excess bone or gum tissue covering the teeth cause them to appear very short. Excess gum and bone tissue are removed and reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth, creating a balanced smile.
Are you missing a tooth or think your smile will benefit from a crown lengthening procedure? Schedule an appointment with Goldberg Dental Group to make sure your smile is in its best form.
DENTAL IMPLANTS
DENTAL IMPLANTS IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
Dental implants are a permanent and aesthetically pleasing solution for replacing missing or extracted teeth. Unlike alternatives such as bridges, implants don’t require altering or compromising surrounding healthy teeth, making them an appealing treatment option.
FIVE STEP DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS
STEP 1 – IMPLANT PLACEMENT
An incision is made in the gum to access the alveolar bone and then the implant is surgically inserted into the jaw bone. Once the implants achieve primary stability into the bone, the gums are sutured over the implant site.
Multiple implants can be placed in one office visit.
STEP 2 – IMPLANT HEALING
The implants require three to six months to fully heal, during which time the jaw bone grows around the implant in a process called osseointegration. Temporary crowns can be installed while the implants heal so that eating, speaking and smiling are all normal.
STEP 3 – PREPARING THE GUMS
Once the implant has integrated into the bone the gums are prepared to house the new crown. An incision is made into the gums to expose the implant. This serves as a chance for the dentists to monitor the implant and ensure that it is stable. A temporary healing cap is placed onto the implant to sculpt the soft tissue around the implant. The cap is sutured in place to let the gums grow beautifully and naturally around the new implant.
STEP 4 – NEW CROWN DESIGN
After a few weeks, the temporary healing cap is removed and an impression of the implant site is taken. The impression is sent to our expert lab where a beautiful new crown and an abutment, a metal connector that attaches to the crown, are created.
STEP 5 – FINAL INSERTION AND UPGRADED SMILE
The custom fitted crown and attunement are attached to the implant.
The precision involved in the dental implantation process ensures that your smile will be restored to its best version!

EXTRACTIONS & WISDOM TOOTH REMOVAL
EXTRACTIONS & WISDOM TOOTH REMOVAL IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
TOOTH EXTRACTIONS
At Goldberg Dental Group we believe that the best kind of dental care is good oral hygiene. Unfortunately, no matter how well you brush and floss, sometimes tooth extractions are unavoidable.
COMFORT DURING EXTRACTION
Thanks to modern dental advancement, tooth extractions are no longer the painful and frightening experience they once were. We do everything we possibly can to make sure our patients feel as little pain as possible both during the tooth extraction procedure and once they return home.
WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION
One of the most common tooth extraction procedures is wisdom tooth removal.
Wisdom teeth often cause problems as they emerge through the gums. An “impacted” wisdom tooth is one that emerges from the gum line at an angle which can cause pain, only partial emergence from the gum or for it to grow through the gum unevenly.
Usually one or two teeth are removed at a time, but all four wisdom teeth may be removed at once, depending on the patient’s condition and desires. A local anesthetic is normally used to numb the areas where teeth will be extracted, but general anesthetic may be used if the patient prefers.
Impacted wisdom teeth must be removed! Prevent unnecessary complications and pain. Schedule your appointment at Goldberg Dental Group today.
DENTURES
DENTURES IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
Dentures are used to replace multiple missing teeth. They can be removed and put back into your mouth as often as you like.
TYPES OF DENTURES
Partial dentures are an option when some natural teeth remain. Partial dentures are similar to a bridge, but are not permanently affixed in the mouth.
Complete dentures, also called full dentures, are made once all of the natural teeth have been extracted.
There are two types of complete/full dentures:
- Conventional complete dentures – All the teeth are removed and the bone and tissue are given time to heal before the dentures are placed. Healing can take a few months, during which time the patient is without teeth.
- Immediate complete dentures – Measurements of the mouth are taken and dentures are fitted for the mouth before teeth removal. The dentures are placed in the mouth immediately after the teeth are removed. One of the advantages of immediate full dentures is that the patient is never without teeth. However, since the jaw bone changes shape as the mouth heals, a follow-up visit is required to tighten the dentures after the jaw bone has healed, and sometimes, the bone might change so dramatically that a completely new set might have to be made.
Our dentists will work with you to understand your mouth and your lifestyle so that you can continue to live your life with the dentures that will suit you best.

BONDING
BONDING IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
WHAT IS BONDING?
Composite, often referred to as ‘bonding,’ is a safe, affordable and attractive solution for many dental problems. It is a white resin most routinely used as a filling material after a cavity has been removed, an outstanding alternative to unsightly silver amalgam fillings traditionally used. Bonding has a proven track record in dentistry as a successful, long term and restorative material to enhance smiles. Goldberg Dental Group recommends bonding as an aesthetic produce to:
- fill cavities
- correct cracks in teeth
- correct gaps between teeth
- cover up stained or discolored teeth
HOW BONDING WORKS
After the tooth has been prepared, we artfully sculpt the color-matched composite material to restore normal contours of the tooth, so that it looks like a natural tooth! An ultraviolet light is used to harden the resin, which is then polished to perfection.
Schedule an appointment with Goldberg Dental Group to see if bonding is your solution for a fresh and restored smile.
ROOT CANALS
ROOT CANALS IN SAN DIEGO, CA
Advances in dental technology have made the notorious root canal more like a regular filling than a surgery to dread. At Goldberg Dental Group we use local and general anesthetic along with post-operative pain medication to keep pain at bay both during and after the procedure.
WHO NEEDS A ROOT CANAL?
The benefits of a root canal make it one of the most valuable dental procedures.
A root canal is performed when the infection in a tooth with a deep cavity spreads to the nerves in the root of the tooth. The infected nerves must be removed and cleaned out so the infection does not turn into an abscess or more painful issues.
ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE
- Local anesthetic – The area around the infected tooth is numbed with a local anesthetic.
- Removing and cleaning – The infected tissue is carefully removed from the root canal system and the canal is cleaned thoroughly and gently.
- Filling and sealing – The empty and clean root canal system is filled and sealed with gutta percha, a rubbery filling material.
- Crown fitting – The tooth that has undergone a root canal is fitted with a crown to give it strength, protect it and to improve its appearance.
If you suspect that your tooth is infected Goldberg Dental Group can help! Connect with our office immediately to prevent further infection and more serious problems.

INVISALIGN & CLEAR ALIGNER THERAPY
INVISALIGN IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
Clear aligner therapy, like Invisalign, is an excellent orthodontic method for straightening teeth.
We know that crooked teeth can impact so many aspects of your life, making you feel self-conscious when you’re eating, smiling or speaking. Traditional braces can require a year or more of brackets and wires on your teeth, which can cause even more self-consciousness and discomfort while you wait for your smile to be straightened. Clear aligners are a remarkable alternative!
WHY CLEAR ALIGNERS WORK FOR OUR PATIENTS
- Aligners gently shift crooked teeth into place, making pain throughout treatment minimal.
- Every few weeks, patients are refitted for new aligners that correspond with their straightening smile.
- The treatment consists of clear plastic aligners that go over the teeth and they are virtually impossible for others to see.
- Invisalign aligners can be removed before eating and cleaning teeth so they don’t disturb oral hygiene.
- With Invisalign, there are no protruding wires so there is no need to refrain from eating certain foods.
As a safe and discreet system, Invisalign is our favorite method for delivering the best results — straight teeth!
Would you like to correct your crooked teeth in the most comfortable way? Connect with Goldberg Dental Group to see if Invisalign is the right fit for you.
